They don't care how much you know until you show them how much you care!

Are they having fun?

Skateing ~ Who is it really about?

Who's skateing who? Hmmmm..."teaching the kids skateing...skateing off kids". I really want you to ask yourself the title question again!

How does it make you feel? If the question doesn't bother you then we may have something in common and we can help resolve the situation together.

If the question does bother you and you make it about yourself...well brother, we have a dialog conversation waiting to happen. Just remember...keep your selfish feelings out if the picture. It is about the kids, right?

Quit living through them!

Also, keep in mind "dialog" consists of the truth and the facts...no selfish spin! Focus is on what is best for the kids behind the masks, not the ones running the show.

For those who couldn't tell, though this happens in all sports, I am using "hockey" as the catalyst right now being most prevalent, relevant, and most recent.

Politics...

ahhh...there is the word! C'mon people, are you teaching kids skateing or are you skateing off the kids? Do you know what I have to say about that?...just look at the winners. Is your program part of the same glory? If so, awesome, you get it! If not, take a real hard look at...first yourself!!! Then, look at what you have helped create.

You can blame it on anything you want but I can give you stories of small towns that beat all the odds and are still doing so year after year against the Goliath sized towns.

It is the leaders mentality that will filter down into the little sponges that will either make them feel they can do anything, or, take on whatever ugly "form" they are into.

Numbers??!!...Hogwash!! Nothing but an excuse. The amount of kids in your association mean absolutely nothing.

Fact

Did you know that at the age of 67 years of age 97% of that population is either dead or dead broke?

On the brighter side, did you know that 3% of them are true champions?

I'm not talking about beating somebody else, I'm talking just pure, unadulterated success.

That success is taught and there are few that get the virgin criteria.

Everybody has the right for ultimate prosperous success. Just being born gives them that right. A birth certificate proves that point I'm making!

Who says "I can't wait to see how much of a loser my kid is going to be when he/she is born"? NOBODY!

So, then why do we accept anything less than perfection?

You say, "because not everybody is built for greatness".

In who's terms? Define greatness!!

Ahhh...light bulb above the head...this is where automatic "truth" kicks in and the "take-away" is exposed by the pollution of arrogance, something to prove, power tripping, low self-esteem, being picked on, lack of popularity, being bullied...etc...or any other pinhead excuse there might be to piss on someone else's bush.

It's not about what you get...IT'S ABOUT WHAT YOU GIVE

Everybody "is" built for greatness. That greatness is our responsibilities, as coaches and leaders, of a bunch of sponges, to make them absorb that fact, and believe it, that they are the next Wayne Gretzky.

That confidence in them will speak volumes to their soul. Not the fact that they will be the next Gretzky, but the fact that they have people or peoples believing in them with action and not "lip-flapping".

Yes, there is politics in successful associations as well, but it is much less prevalent. The associations that create a winning entity are the ones to emulate. If you want success do what the successful do.

Successful people recognize talents, see the potential, trust the source, and most of all give credit where credit is due...give respect to the individual/s.

That, in itself, does nothing else but spawn potential champions through the confidence it automatically gives.

Use the Game to teach life skills

This is my interpretation of success...using the game to teach life skills. All too often associations focus to much on the skill of the game and run the program too much like a business. It is to a point, but the focus has to be the kids.

Ya know what...yes, winning is good and it is healthy, as long as you are bringing up the children "the way they should go". Their success depends on their roll, you as a coach must recognize and teach them to implement, in order to embed the enlightenment of their new found gift.

We are “all” naturally self-absorbed rolling the tapes of our arrogant ancestral past. Through the process of life, if we are to flourish, we must seek with “commitment”, that we all have inside, to gain direction away from our experiences of our programmed generational mindset in order to find the “true” light of life!

It's like "FogHorn LegHorn", from Bugs Bunny and Friends, says to the little Chicken Hawk..."open the windows Richard".

In other words...think outside your programmed box and take note of the diversity that is offered through the the knowledge, and most of all, experiences of others that want to be involved.

Don't feel it is all yours because you worked your way to the point you are. You will live and die by one rule, in short order...that I promise you.

Or, you can co-create blessings beyond imagination to the ones set before you.

In order to create teamwork and success, you must display the ingredience and it can not be about you.

You're right coach - we have to put the kids first. Too many people who want to live their own dreams using the kids - though it's even better if the two come together so that everyone wins.
